More on Hypnosis and your Hypnotherapist
Hypnosis occurs when you are in such a deeply relaxed state that your critical mind steps aside and allows you to communicate directly with your subconscious mind, where all your habits, beliefs and feelings are stored. When you are in this state you are able to instill new positive ideas and beliefs, which in turn creates new habits.
Most people don’t realize it, but they are often in a state of hypnosis at various times throughout the day. Think about times where you become desensitized to things around you and your mind wanders or you become so absorbed in what you are doing that you forget about everything else – this is hypnosis. Daydreaming and mediation are states of hypnosis. Often people go into hypnosis while on their computers, watching a movie or TV, taking a long walk or even driving to and from work.
Hypnosis is a natural state of being and everyone is capable of going into hypnosis. In fact, all hypnosis is essentially “self hypnosis” and when you hire a Hypnotherapist their job is to use their training and expertise to gently and professionally guide you through your session in order to help you achieve your goals. You are in control at all times and will never do or say anything you would not do or say out of hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is a professional practice that is always done in accordance to ethical standards. Sessions are always respectful and confidential and conducted in an appropriate and safe environment. You should always feel comfortable and at ease with your Hypnotherapist and be able to ask whatever questions you need to during your sessions.
How quickly will it work?
Everyone is different and experiences things differently but typically in order to create permanent change, 4 – 6 sessions is needed for any one issue. Some issues may be less and others may be more. The first session should always include a consultation to determine what the clients needs are and how they would like to proceed. Typically during a first session I will also do progressive relaxation with the client. A progressive relaxation is a simple and beneficial way to experience hypnosis as well direct suggestion therapy. It provides the client with a solid introduction to hypnosis and me as a hypnotherapist before moving on to more personalized and interactive therapies.
